Alana is registered with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Alana has a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with Yorkville University in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Philosophy from York University in Toronto, Ontario. She has worked as a wellness counsellor supporting individuals in transforming their lifestyles and relationships with food through coaching, individualized exercises, goal-setting, and collaborative reflection.
Enduring a debilitating chronic physical health challenge in her youth led Alana through a transformative experience as she discovered that her body was presenting trauma related to her early-life experiences. This new awareness set Alana on a path of self-discovery where she uncovered the power of resilience and the important role she had in her own healing. As a wellness counsellor, she witnessed the will, adaptability, and perseverance of her clients and was inspired by their capacity to adopt new perspectives, transform their behaviours and experiences, and shift old habits and ways of being that stood in their way.
Alana draws from a person-centered, culturally respectful, strengths-based approach, and is inspired to integrate aspects of nature-based therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness, to support her clients on their mental health journeys. She aims to foster a safe, confidential, empathetic, and collaborative environment for her clients in which they can feel at ease to engage in the process of self-discovery.
She acknowledges the vulnerability and strength it takes to seek support and looks forward to holding space for individuals and groups on their journeys towards increased mental wellness.
